Centreasks employees aged 45 and above to get COVID-19 vaccine

TOG NEWS SERVICE, NEW DELHI, APR 07, 2021: THE Central government on Tuesday directed all its employees who are 45 years and above to get themselves vaccinated against the coronavirus to check the rise in daily cases and spread of the infection.

As per the memorandum issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the decision was taken after monitoring the current COVID-19 situation in the country.

"All central government employees of the age of 45 years and above are advised to get themselves vaccinated, so as to effectively contain the spread of COVID-19," the government said in the release.

They also advised the employees to continue to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour even after vaccination by frequent washing of hands and sanitisation, wearing a mask or face cover and observing social distancing.

"Government has been monitoring the situation very closely and based on the strategy adopted for prioritising the groups for vaccination to contain the spread of COVlD-19, currently, all persons of the age of 45 years and above can participate in the vaccination exercise," it said.

India, the third worst-hit country in the world, crossed over one lakh daily COVID-19 cases for the first time on Monday and saw its biggest rise on Wednesday when it recorded over 1.15 lakh new cases for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.

The 1,15,736 new infections have taken the country's total cases to over 1.28 crore, while there were 630 deaths and 59,856 recoveries in the past day.

Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh are the States with the highest rise in daily infections. In terms of total caseload, Maharashtrais followed by Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
